Precedent Models

These following models helped with the scheme of incorporating tessellations to form a curve:

Week 3: Textures, Products and Video

Three textures used in model:
Used on accents of triangular staircase below ground.

Used beneath spiral staircase on ground floor.

Used on ground floor shade panels.

Two images that incorporate the designers work into their workshop.

First image shows the Mountain & Moon 'PALAIS' Earring on an earring stand. The finished work is used as a model in the jewellery workshop, which is above ground.

The second image shows the Trent Jansen stool from the 'Porosity' collection on display above a rectangular block with the finished product printed on its faces, whilst another prototype is left carelessly on the floor next to the podium.

Jewellery from above ground workshop.

Stool from below ground workshop.

The short video (giphy) below is an illustration of a part of the BMW Welt infrastructure, showing the texture of the model as a result of using tessellations to form a curve.

Experiment 1: The Three Words

As the model of my design has updated since Week 1, the three words for each client have also changed accordingly.

Client's Work

The two projects I have chosen, a pair of earrings and a stool, originate from 'Mountain and Moon' and 'Trent Jansen Studio' respectively.

The earrings can be found on the 'Mountain and Moon' website, and are labelled the 'PALAIS Earrings'. The stool originates from one of Trent Jansen's recent exhibitions, called the 'POROSITY KABARI', held in the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery between the 18th of October and the 1st of December 2019.

Context Behind the Staircase

The spiral staircase is designed to allow movement from the jewellery work shop (above ground) to the show room (ground level) and is a visual representation of the idea bringing the 'small' down to the 'large'. The increase in stair tread diameter during the decent of the staircase represents the event of bringing the completed, intricate jewellery made in the workshop down to the larger show-room space, where an idea that began small from the workshop for a small piece of jewellery (hence a small stair tread) leads to a larger audience in which it will be available to the buyer (hence the larger stair tread at the bottom). The staircase railing in itself is a representation of the geodetic design of the earrings, in with the rail bars concave outwards to represent the dome-like structure in a ribbon like manner, again symbolising the intricacy of the jewellery.
